If bystanders must be used, it isessential that they be briefed in thorough detail on whatyou want them to do. After all accessible bleeding hasbeen controlled and the fractures splinted, the shortspineboard should be moved into position behind thevictim. A neck collar should be applied in all cases andwill aid in the immobilization of the head and neck.The head should then be secured to the board with aheadband or a 6-inch self-adhering roller bandage.The victim’s body should then be secured to the boardby use of the supplied straps around the chest andthighs.
