Incisal (I): These restorations include the incisal
surface and/or one or more of the other surfaces (MI or
DI). Tooth #10 in fig. 2-14, shows an (MI) restoration;
tooth #7 in the same figure shows a (DI) restoration.
Facial (F): Chart along the gingival margin of
the facial surface unless otherwise instructed by the
dentist. Tooth #6 in fig. 2-14 shows a facial (F)
Lingual (L) on anterior teeth: You will usually
chart them in the lingual pit (fig. 2-14, tooth #11) or at
the gingival margin line of the tooth.
Nonmetallic restorations with two or more
surfaces: Chart these restorations as shown in the
mandibular arch in figure 2-14. Tooth #26 shows a
mesial-facial (MF) restoration; tooth #23, a distal-facial
(DF) restoration; tooth #22, a mesial-facial-distal
